Why the Tarot?

II. The Guardianwoman holding a shieldand spearGirl chasing away birds from the food supply9 of Thunderbirds

(Note: II. The Guardian is traditionally called II. The High Priestess of the Major Arcana.
9 of Thunderbirds is traditionally called 9 of Wands of the Minor Arcana).

The inventiveness and beauty of the Tarot draws me in. I see so many decks, all beautifully illustrated, revealing each Tarot concept so differently. The world of the Tarot is so fertile that it beckons me to become involved. Now I want to enter that world, and experience the Tarot as fully as I can.

To me, each Tarot card is a story. When the cards are laid out, the story unfolds with new chapters. As the cards reveal their deeper wisdom, the story's ending changes. Reshuffle the cards, and a new story appears. This tickles my creative imagination, and entices me to dream of more possibilities.

I see the Tarot as a tool for meditation and divination. After it opens the door to the mystical world, the Tarot then becomes my guide and path maker. A kaleidoscope of my past, present and future forms patterns in the cards for me to consider. I quietly ponder my life, and resolve to make decisions for a more fulfilling future.

After reading the quotes from the Aecelectic Tarot Site, the ones that I resonate with describe the Tarot as a multifaceted gem, a mirror to the Divine. In addition, I consider the Tarot to be a tool of self-exploration and discovery. For me, the Tarot is a gate to the worlds of wonder and mystery. It leads us to the Divine.

Introducing the Tarot to my best friend, I would say to them, “With the Tarot, you can write your own story. As a doorway from this world to the ones beyond, the Tarot offers a road of discovery.” Then, I would tell them, “The Tarot provides us a means to see our past, present, and future without fear or dread. With the Tarot, we can explore our choices, and learn to make good ones.”
