The Sweat Lodge

an Indian sweat lodge

(Minnesota Historical Society)

The Sweat Lodge is a place of spiritual refuge and healing. In the Lodge, people repair the damage done to their lives. Also, they receive guidance from Mother Earth. As part of the Sweat Lodge Ceremony, the Four Directions are honored in four rounds. First to be recognized is West of the Spirit World. Then North of courage is honored, followed by East of prayer, and finally South of healing.

Teaching:

The Sweat Lodge challenges you to purify yourself. Sing your sacred songs, and cleanse your feelings. Enter the place of healing and become whole.

Application:

Offer tobacco to Mother Earth. Cleanse yourself with sage and cedar. Pray to the Four Directions. Work with the Allies of the Sweat Lodge to discover what is draining you. Once purified, you will be able to help others through their negativity.

Challenge: Be willing to let go.

Attributes: Healing

Ma'heo'o Reiki. This Native American based Reiki system is grounded in the four elements as well as Father Sky and Mother Earth
