Self-Cleansing

the wind blowing across a meadow

Every day, I smudge myself, with a mixture of sage and sweet grass. Sage removes the negative energy, while sweet grass replaces it with positive energy. It helps me to start the day fresh.

My mood determines which method of self-cleansing I use. One method I employ is to stand out in the wind. By letting the wind blow through me, the negative particles leave me. The wind sweeps my body clean, leaving me refreshed and renewed.

Another method that I like to do is to stand in the rain. As the rain water flows off of me, I feel the gunk leave me.The healing rain adds a positive energy to my body.

One way for self-cleansing that does not work for me is releasing negative energy into the earth. Several times, I would touch the ground, and ask the Earth to take my negative energy away. Unfortunately for me, She gave it right back to me. Since to me the Earth is a Goddess – Tellus Mater, I feel that it is an inappropriate method of self-cleansing.

the rain in the trees

Recently, I listened to a radio program about bullies. It brought up a lot of painful memories of my younger days. I was bullied in middle school for reasons, I never knew. As the program went on, a black cloud surrounded me. I became overwhelmed with bleakness.

Afterwards, I took a long hot shower. I let the water flow down me, taking the negativity away. The steam dissolved the black cloud into nothingness. With my scrub brush, I washed the bleakness from my body. Afterwards, I felt light as a feather, full of positive energy.

Depending on my mood and the circumstances, I employ different methods to cleanse myself. For maintenance, I do daily smudging. However, the most enjoyable form for me is letting the wind blow through me.
