From “Birds, Volume Two”: Cardinal: Self-Esteem

The bright red color of the male Cardinal makes Him an easy Bird to recognize. A frequent visitor to backyards and gardens, this popular Bird is the State Bird of nine U.S. states. Because more people are feeding Birds in winter, Cardinal has expanded his range from the United States and Mexico to Canada.

Cardinal does not migrate in the winter and instead remains where He is. Strongly territorial, Cardinal will sing all year to proclaim ownership of his area. Also, Cardinal will attack all other Cardinals who enter what He considers to be his turf.

Both Mother and Father Cardinal remain together as a family. Mother Cardinal will sit on her eggs, while Father Cardinal brings food to Her. When their brood fledges, Father Cardinal takes care of the little ones while Mother Cardinal starts their second family. In this way, Cardinals raise at least two families a year.

This bright Bird exudes self-esteem with his bright red plumage and crest. Cardinal sings a distinctive song, “cheer, cheer, cheer,” that everyone recognizes. Like Cardinal, you can be bright and bold. Be careful not to be so territorial that you attack your own reflection.
