WARM-BLOODED ONES

ZEBRA (SUB-FAMILY)

Contributing Your Gifts

zebras at watering hole

People instantly recognize Zebra by his distinctive black and white stripes. Unlike his Relatives, Horse and Ass, people have never tamed Zebra. He roams the savannahs of Africa as He has for centuries.

The three Zebras (Mountain Zebra, Plains Zebra, and Grevy’s Zebra) are no more closely related to Each Other than they are to Horses and Asses. Larger than other Zebras, Grevy’s Zebra has different social customs. He forms temporary groups, where He even tolerates other Zebra Stallions. Grevy’s Zebra will even live by Himself. The major difference between Plains Zebra and Mountain Zebra is where They live. Living in the Namibian Desert, Mountain Zebra can dig down in the earth to find water. Meanwhile, Plains Zebra lives on flat, grassy plains where He can see in every direction.

What the three Zebras do have in common are their distinctive black and white stripes. The patterns of their stripes are as individual as a human fingerprint. Zebra stripes help to keep Them in close-knit groups. The stripes may confuse predators but they also encourage Zebras to make friends with Each Other.

In addition, the three Zebras are tolerant of others. Gravy’s Zebras will gather in a large group with Ostriches and Antelopes. Plains Zebra and Mountain Zebra also mix with Elephant, Wildebeest, and Gazelles at water holes. With so many eyes, ears, and noses alert for danger, All are safe against any Predator that may be lurking nearby.

One of Zebra’s hidden teachings is contributing your gifts to a group. At the water hole with other Animals, Zebra smells for danger as while Others look for danger. Zebra’s special gift of keen smell helps keep Others as safe as Himself.
