Warthog’s unsightly appearance makes him distinctive looking. He gets his name by the two prominent warts on either side of his face. No one knows why the warts exist but quite a few people think that they are his defense to ward off blows.
Warthog lives with his family and other relatives in a group called a sounder. They make their den in an abandoned Aardvark den. When the Sounder enter their den, the Piglets enter first. Then Mother and Father Warthog enter last, sliding in backwards. Father Warthog faces the outside with his tusks, ready to fend off any predators.
Warthog is very expressive. Using grunts and snorts along with his tail and mane, Warthog makes his feelings known. When his tail and mane are raised, He wants everyone to BACK OFF. With his mane bristling and head lowered, Warthog warns that He will shove his opponent and knock them off balance. When He feels friendly, Warthog greets his fellow Warthogs by rubbing noses.
Warthog expresses himself eloquently with his body and his voice. When He wants Mother Warthog’s attention, Father Warthog makes noises like a racing motorboat. You can express yourself in many ways. Just watch Warthog do it.
