Rhesus Monkey

Many people are familiar with this social, crafty Monkey, without knowing it. For example, Rhesus Monkey is the “organ-grinding monkey”, performing tricks for people. In addition, in medical research, Rhesus Monkey’s blood lead to the discovery of the Rh factor in human blood. Moreover, in India, She is prevalent in sacred temples.

Although Christians depicted Rhesus Monkey as a symbol of degraded humanity, Hindus see Her as a symbol of courage and self-sacrifice. The Monkey-God Hanuman rescued the kidnapped Sita, the wife of Rama (God Incarnate) from the Demon King, Ravanna. For that Rhesus Monkey is believed to make barren women fertile.

Rhesus Monkey lives in troops of 35 members. Everyone knows their place in Rhesus Monkey society. Various Rhesus Monkeys of her Troop looks out for enemies and care for young Monkeys. The Troop enforces the hierarchy through grooming and slapping.

Rhesus Monkey teaches agile thinking. A fast learner, She can adapt to changes in her environment. Moving from the forests, Rhesus Monkey learned how to live in urban areas by stealing. Living in a complex social hierarchy. She has the ability to access any given social situation. Learn from Her how to think fast, just do not be so agile that you flip-flop.

Monkeys differ from Apes, by having tails and arms and legs equal in length. Apes are larger and heavier. Unlike Apes, Monkeys do not walk upright.
