Known the world over for Her bloodsucking bite, the Mosquito is probably one of the most unpopular creatures around. In fact, Mosquito inspired Thomas Edison, the American inventor, to invent the electric bug zapper. For centuries, people have tried to kill Mosquito, only to find Her flourishing in spite of their efforts.
What makes Mosquito unpopular is the disease and pestilence She carries and passes on to her victims. She has caused more human suffering than any other organism. One million people die from mosquito-borne diseases every year, and about half of the world’s population is at risk.
A member of the Fly Family, Mosquitoes are small, winged insects. They use their short, club-shaped hind wings for balance. Like many flies, Mosquitoes can not take solid food, and can only suck liquids.
Most Mosquitoes are nectar feeders except when the female needs protein for egg production. Female Mosquitoes drink blood while the males only drink nectars. Usually, Mother Mosquito will seek out a victim before laying Her eggs. The itch and weal that forms the bite comes from Her salvia.
What does Mosquito have to teach? In spite of efforts to irradiate them, Mosquitoes are flourishing more than ever. They are very good at what they do, which is to procreate and perpetuate their species. People can learn from Mosquito how to balance their needs against those of others.
Mosquito needs stagnant pools of water to survive. If you find a Mosquito biting, you should seek out the lifeless pools of water in your life. Mosquito directs you to take actions to become healthy.
