Recognizing no human boundaries in her flight, Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is the most widespread Eagle of her size. Whether the place is Eurasia or North America, She soars effortlessly on upswept wings. At home in the wide-open spaces of moors and plains, Golden Eagle patrols her large hunting territory.
Golden Eagle’s name comes from the rich yellow plumage around her head and neck. When the sun shines on the gold feathers of her head, She seems to be afire. The sun transforms Golden Eagle from a mere Bird into a Being of Radiance. In that moment, She becomes the Emissary of the Gods.
When a Roman Emperor died, Golden Eagle would fly from his funeral pyre to conduct his soul to the heavens. She acted as the Bearer of Souls for Syrians and Babylonians as well. In addition, Asian Shamans relied on Golden Eagle to carry their souls on their mystical journeys. According to the Celts, Golden Eagle was the second oldest animal on Earth. She (and Salmon) was the repository of all history. She saw all that had occurred in the world.
Golden Eagle is also the Founder of Cities. When Constantine needed a capital for his Eastern Empire, he had decided on Troy. Golden Eagle changed his mind by flying the surveying cords to Byzantium (Constantinople, Istanbul). When the Aztecs wandered in the desert looking for a location to build their city, Golden Eagle showed them the place. They found Her, with the morning sun shining on her outstretched wings, perched on a cactus with Snake between her talons. At that spot, they founded their capital Tenochtitlan (Mexico City).
An ambassador to Gods and men, Golden Eagle gathers peoples under her wings. Acting as Soul-guardian, Golden Eagle mediates between people and gods. Through people’s understanding of Her, They have the ability to understand others. Learn the aspects of ambassadorship from Golden Eagle.
